The Chapel of
The Three Marys
"There's no such thing as a coincidence in a prayer chapel."
-Karen Barber
Our chapel is over one century old. It was originally built in 1907 in the rural bush of Murgon, in south-east Queensland. It was scheduled for demolition in 2002. However, one of our founding members offered to save the structure.
A team of hardworking builders was sent up to the site to dismantle the structure and flat pack it for transport. It was then moved to its final location here on the edge of the rainforest, where it was lovingly re-erected and restored. The original hard wood interior was preserved, with new paneling replacing some of the aged exterior. The original windows were eventually removed and replaced with the larger stained-glass windows that we now have. The restoration process also involved reinforcing the foundation and adding modern amenities while maintaining the historical integrity of the structure. The community rallied together to fundraise for the project, ensuring that this iconic building could continue to be enjoyed by future generations.
The chapel's age and the love that has gone into it, as well as the countless hours of prayer and meditation, have imbued it with an almost magical energy. When visitors enter the chapel, they frequently comment how peaceful they feel.
